The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old (75cl)

The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old is a Speyside single malt in a 750ml bottle. It was launched in 1993 and uses the wood-finishing method that Malt Master David Stewart devised in 1982. The whisky spends at least 12 years in traditional casks, American oak ex-bourbon barrels and hogsheads, then moves to Spanish oak ex-Oloroso sherry casks for a further nine months. It is then held for three to four months in large oak tuns so the casks can marry. The traditional casks are said to soften the whisky and add delicate character, while the sherry wood brings depth and fullness of flavour.
