The Balvenie DoubleWood 17 Year Old is a single malt matured in two types of cask in succession. It spends time first in American oak barrels, which add soft vanilla sweetness, then moves to European oak sherry casks for spicy flavour and greater depth.
It is an older sibling to the DoubleWood 12 Year Old and shares its honeyed, spicy character, with deeper vanilla, hints of green apple and creamy toffee.
The nose is oak, vanilla, honey and a hint of green apple. The palate brings dried fruits, spice, toasted almonds and cinnamon, and the finish is vanilla oak, honey and spicy sweetness.
