The Balvenie French Oak 16 Year Old is a Speyside single malt and the distillery's first French oak finish. It was added permanently to the core range, the first addition since the 14 Year Old Caribbean Cask of 2013.
The whisky matures for 16 years in American oak ex-bourbon casks, then spends several months in French oak casks that held Pineau des Charentes. Malt Master David C. Stewart created it, after Pineau casks were suggested by the brand's USA ambassador Lorne Cousin. It is bottled at 47.6% in a 750ml bottle, non-chill-filtered.
It is light gold, with honeyed orchard fruit, citrus, floral notes and ginger.
