The Balvenie French Pineau Cask is an 18 year old single malt from Dufftown in Speyside, bottled at 47.9% in a 750ml bottle. It is a limited single-cask release in the Balvenie Stories series, A Collection of Curious Casks.
The whisky spent 10 years in a combination of ex-bourbon and European oak casks, then a further 8 years in casks that once held Pineau des Charentes, the sweet fortified wine of France's Cognac region.
The nose is toasted oak, delicate spice, smooth butterscotch and hints of ripe berries. On the palate come creamy vanilla, honey and gentle oaky tannins, with toffee, raisins and orchard fruits. The finish is long and fruity.
