The Balvenie Portwood 21 Year Old is a single malt from the Balvenie distillery in Dufftown, Scotland, sold here in a 750ml bottle. It is Balvenie aged for 21 years, then moved into port pipes that previously held fine port wines.
The Malt Master samples the whisky regularly during the finishing and draws it once the port character is right. Portwood was first released in 1996 and is associated with David C. Stewart MBE, the former Malt Master.
The producer's notes describe a perfumed nose of ripe raisin with a nutty dryness, a refined, creamy and silky palate of fruit, honey and spice, and a long, gentle, nutty finish.
