The Balvenie – Tun 1509 Batch 1 (47.1%)

The Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 1 is the first edition from a new marrying tun, successor to Tun 1401. Malt Master David Stewart selected 42 casks: 35 American oak barrels and seven European oak sherry butts, holding whiskies from the 1970s up to 1992. They were married for three months in the tun, which holds 8,000 litres, about four times the size of Tun 1401. It is bottled at 47.1%, with 11,000 bottles in total. The colour is dark gold. The nose is deep and rich with sweet vanilla, orange peel and floral notes, and the palate is silky, with citrus, cinnamon and flower honey.
