The Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch No. 8 is a single malt Scotch whisky bottled at 52.2% in a 70cl bottle. It is the final instalment in the Tun 1509 series and reflects malt master David Stewart MBE's work in marrying casks.
Eighteen casks went into it: four ex-bourbon barrels, six second-fill sherry butts, five refill puncheons and three first-fill sherry butts. They spent three months together in a traditional marrying tun.
The nose is described as freshly baked lemon tarts, homemade marmalade, maple syrup and sweet marzipan. On the palate come rich toffee, creamy vanilla, wild honey, toasted oak, crystallised ginger and cinnamon.
