This is a 12-year-old Highland single malt Scotch whisky from The Dalmore distillery in Alness, bottled at 40% ABV in a 750ml bottle.
It matures first in American white oak ex-bourbon casks, then is finished in 30-year-old Matusalem Oloroso sherry butts. The distillery, founded in 1839, uses wash stills with flat tops and spirit stills fitted with cold water jackets, which gives a heavier new-make spirit.
The nose combines citrus peel, cinnamon, caramel fudge and roasted almonds, with dark chocolate behind. The palate is sweet and full, with Seville marmalade, dried fruit, sherried oak and vanilla. The finish is medium to long, with roasted coffee, dark chocolate and a little orange zest.
