The Dalmore – King Alexander III (75cl, 40%)

The Dalmore King Alexander III is a Highland single malt at 40% ABV, with no age statement, in a 750ml bottle. It is described as the first whisky finished in six different casks. After initial maturation in American white oak ex-bourbon casks, the whisky is divided among small-batch ex-bourbon casks, Matusalem oloroso sherry casks, Madeira barrels, Marsala casks, port pipes and Cabernet Sauvignon wine barriques, then married in a sherry butt. The name honours King Alexander III of Scotland and recalls 1263, when Colin of Kintail saved the king from a charging stag, which brought Clan Mackenzie the Royal Stag emblem. Red berry fruits and a hint of passion fruit lead the nose, followed by citrus zest, vanilla pod, crème caramel and crushed almonds, and a finish of cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger.
