The Glenlivet 12 Years Old is a Speyside single malt bottled at 40% ABV. The distillery was founded in 1824 near Ballindalloch, and its water comes from local springs, including Josie's Well.
The whisky is matured in a mix of American and European oak casks, chosen to support the spirit rather than dominate it. It is a bright gold colour.
The nose is fresh, with honeysuckle, meadow flowers, green apple and pear, then vanilla, marzipan and toasted oak. The palate is silky and medium-bodied, with apple, pear, peach, vanilla and light toffee. The finish is of medium length and softly warming, with malt sweetness, light oak and a hint of nutmeg.
