The Glenlivet 15 Year Old French Oak Reserve is a Speyside single malt bottled at 40% ABV. The whisky is first matured in American oak (ex-bourbon) and some sherry casks, then a portion is finished in French Limousin oak.
That French oak finish is what sets it apart: the more porous grain of Limousin oak is credited with adding spice and structure, a creamier texture and nutty notes to the fruity house character.
The nose is creamy, with ripe pear, apple, honey and vanilla, plus a little spice, toasted nuts and citrus. On the palate there is ripe mango, almond, toffee and cinnamon, with gentle oak. The finish is of medium length, with sweet almond, spice and light oak.
