The Glover is a 22 year old blended malt from Adelphi, made from Japanese and Scottish whiskies. It is named after Thomas Blake Glover, the Scottish samurai who was the first foreigner to receive the Order of the Rising Sun from the Japanese emperor, and it celebrates the relationship between the two countries.
It began with a single ex-sherry hogshead from the closed Hanyu distillery. Whisky from an American oak ex-sherry hogshead from Longmorn, making up 35% of the final blend, was added, along with a little ex-sherry Glen Garioch as a nod to Glover's upbringing in Aberdeenshire.
Only 390 hand-numbered bottles were filled. Adelphi's director Alex Bruce is a descendant of the Earl of Elgin, who signed the first treaty of amity and commerce between Britain and Japan in 1858.
