This is the 2024 edition of Hakushu's Story of the Distillery series, a Japanese single malt in a 70cl bottle at 43% ABV. The year belongs to the release and is not an age statement.
It draws on smoky malt whisky from Suntory's forest distillery in Yamanashi, with bourbon-barrel-matured malt central to the blend. The forest-themed bottle is part of the edition.
The nose combines pineapple, vanilla cream and roasted hojicha tea. The palate is light and soft, with a gentle wasanbon sugar sweetness and a faint bitterness. The finish is bittersweet, with ember smoke.
