The Macallan 12 Year Old Double Cask is a Speyside single malt matured for twelve years in two kinds of sherry-seasoned oak. The American oak casks bring honey, vanilla and citrus, while the European oak adds dried fruits, warm spice and a deeper amber hue. The sherry used for seasoning comes from Jerez de la Frontera in Spain. The colour is entirely natural, with no caramel added, and is called Harvest Sun.
On the nose it is described as creamy butterscotch with toffee apple, candied orange, vanilla custard and fresh oak. The palate brings honey, citrus and ginger with raisins, caramel and fudge, and the finish is long and sweetly drying, with vanilla, spice and gentle citrus.
