The Macallan 12 Year Old Double Cask is a Speyside single malt matured for a minimum of 12 years in American and European oak casks, both seasoned with sherry in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. It is bottled at 43% ABV in a 75cl bottle.
The range was created to take the place of the discontinued Triple Cask line. European oak is said to bring structure and definition, American oak a creamy vanilla sweetness.
Tasting notes mention warm oak, orange zest, toasted fruitcake, ginger biscuits and hints of mocha, with vanilla persisting into the finish.
