This is the 18 year old Sherry Oak expression from Macallan, a Speyside single malt, bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. It pairs the oily, fruity character of the distillery with the rich darkness of its sherry casks.
The nose offers dark plums and soft dates, caramel shortbread, milk chocolate, sweet spices, vanilla, toasted oak and a little strawberry jam. The palate is rich and smooth from the start, with dates, cocoa, dark dried fruits, Jaffa cake, candied orange peel and cinnamon pastries. The finish is long, with cinnamon and chocolate lingering.
