Classic Cut 2024 is the eighth edition of this limited annual Macallan release, a single malt from Speyside bottled at 52.4% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It combines whisky from ex-bourbon casks with whisky from sherry-seasoned American and European oak.
It is meant to be tried neat, then with a little water, which is said to bring out sweeter tropical and orchard fruit.
The nose offers citrus peel, lemongrass, vanilla, pear, green apple and marzipan. On the palate come vanilla custard, milk chocolate, sponge cake, candied apple, dried tropical fruit and a gentle cinnamon warmth. The finish is medium to long, with honeyed vanilla, caramel and oak spice.
