The Macallan Classic Cut 2025 Edition is the ninth annual release in the distillery's high-strength Classic Cut series, which began in 2017. It is a Speyside single malt, bottled at 50.6% ABV in a 75cl bottle.
The whisky was matured in sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks together with ex-bourbon barrels, chosen afresh each year by the whisky-making team. Its colour is natural, and about ninety thousand bottles were made. Adding water is part of the idea, to see how the character shifts.
Orange oil, barley sugar and milk chocolate lead the nose, with grapefruit, vanilla panna cotta and apple turnover appearing once water is added. The finish is long, with melon, oak spice and grapefruit.
