This 18-year-old Macallan, distilled in 2007, is the second chapter of The Macallan's collaboration with James Bond. It marks 55 years since the 1971 film Diamonds Are Forever, and its 45.5% strength nods to the 55th anniversary. It comes in a 70cl bottle.
Whisky Maker Russell Greig matured it in sherry-seasoned European and American oak, together with American oak casks that previously held red wine, a first for The Macallan. The bottle draws on the film's production art and is in a natural Nevada Rock colour.
The nose is sweet polished oak, vanilla bean and rich dried fruit. The palate brings creamy vanilla, caramel, cocoa-dusted champagne truffles, coffee, figs, berries, apricots and subtle nutmeg. It finishes long and refined, with lingering warmth.
