The Macallan Edition No. 5 is a single malt Scotch whisky from the distillery's annual Edition Series, released in autumn 2019 and bottled at 48.5% in a 75cl bottle. It was created with the Pantone Color Institute, which devised a bespoke purple for the packaging, as a tribute to Macallan's natural colour.
The whisky was selected by whisky maker Sarah Burgess and is matured entirely in American oak, across five cask types including first-fill ex-bourbon barrels, refill hogsheads and butts, and first-fill Tonsa, Vasyma and Hudosa casks. It is natural in colour and not chill-filtered.
Vanilla and toffee lead the nose, with nutmeg, ginger, lemon basil and pear. The palate brings caramel, poached peach and ripe pear, and the finish is long and sweet with dark chocolate and baking spice.
