The Macallan – Rare Cask Red (70cl, 43%)

A Macallan single malt without an age statement, bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. Its colour is a dark clay-red amber, unusually deep for a Scotch and more what you would expect from a stronger, all-sherry cask whisky. The nose is elegant and silky, with raisins and citrus, and quieter notes of cocoa and nuts. On the palate it is full-bodied yet still silky, with sherry-led dried fruit sweetness of raisins and apricots, running alongside oak, chocolate and vanilla.
