The Macallan – Red Collection 78 Years Old (70cl, 42.2%)

A 78 year old single malt from The Macallan, bottled at 42.2% in a 70cl bottle as part of the Red Collection. It was matured in hand-picked oak casks at the Macallan Estate near Craigellachie in Speyside. The collection marks the distillery's association with the colour red, which goes back to founder Alexander Reid, whose surname means 'the red'. The bottle comes in a handcrafted European oak case upholstered with Scottish leather. The nose brings fresh apple, peach and grape with antique leather, vanilla and oak spice. Dried fruits, polished oak, vanilla and almond lead the palate, and the finish is very long, with dried fruit, oak spice and a delicate nuttiness.
