The Quiet Man 8 Year Old is an Irish single malt from Derry, Northern Ireland, triple-distilled from 100% malted barley. It spends eight years in oak and is then finished in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels. It is bottled at 40% ABV in a 750ml bottle.
The brand is named after John Mulgrew, a Belfast barman, by his son Ciaran, who founded it. It was the first Irish whiskey bottled in Derry in more than a century, and it won a Double Gold at the 2016 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
The nose is golden honey, baked orchard fruit, toasted oak and gentle nutmeg. The palate brings ripe apple, vanilla custard, caramel and a hint of spiced almond. The finish is medium-long, with warm oak, dried citrus peel and soft malt sweetness.
