Thomas H. Handy is a rye whiskey from the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, released annually and named after a 19th-century New Orleans bartender credited with bringing rye to the Sazerac cocktail.
The 2024 release was distilled in the spring of 2018 in new white oak barrels, matured for 6 years and 2 months, and bottled in the autumn of 2024 at barrel proof, 127.2 proof (63.6% ABV). It comes in a 70cl bottle.
It is powerful and rich, with a robust spiciness. The palate shows toffee, fig cake and candied fruit, then mint, cinnamon and clove. The long, warm finish brings allspice, coconut and nutmeg.
