Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Straight Rye Whiskey is part of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, and this is the 2025 release. It is bottled uncut and unfiltered at 64.9% ABV, from selected barrels blended together rather than from a single barrel.
The rye is made from a high-rye mash bill and aged in new charred American oak barrels. It was distilled and bottled at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Kentucky.
The nose is orange peel, rye spice, cinnamon stick, mint, dried fruit and vanilla bean. The palate is warm, with caramelised sugar, clove, baking spice, molasses, cherry bark and cracked pepper. The finish is long, with oak tannin, lingering spice and a touch of sweet tobacco.
