Tobermory – 23 Year Old Oloroso Cask Finish (70cl, 46.3%)

Tobermory 23 Year Old is a single malt from the Isle of Mull, bottled at 46.3% without chill-filtration or added colour, in a 70cl bottle. It opens the Hebridean Series, a limited range, and follows an earlier Tobermory 15 Year Old. After maturing in ex-bourbon casks, the whisky spent a further eight years in Oloroso sherry casks from González Byass, an unusually long finish. The edition refers to Tobermory's sheltered harbour and its link to the island's history. The nose joins vanilla and ripe oranges with roasted barley, spiced fruit cake and a little cocoa. The palate brings salted toffee and vanilla fudge, then warm spicy oak, with candied citrus and floral honey. The long finish leaves caramelised walnuts and a fine touch of sea salt.
