Tomintoul Peaty Tang is a peated Speyside single malt Scotch whisky, bottled at 40% in a 750ml bottle. Tomintoul, founded in 1964 and now owned by Angus Dundee Distillers, distils with peated malted barley only twice a year, in two-week runs.
The whisky is a vatting of that younger peated malt, around four to five years old, with unpeated whisky aged around eight years. It departs from the light style the distillery is known for.
The nose is pungent, with heather roots, wood smoke, coal tar and lemon peel. The palate moves from cereal malt and lemon to peat smoke, toasted oak and black pepper, and the finish is long, with cracked pepper, smoke and a dry, ashy close.
