Chapter 3 of the Legacy Series from Torabhaig on the Isle of Skye, Cnoc na Mòine is a heavily peated single malt bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle. The name means hill of peat, after a hill in Knoydart that can be seen across the Sound of Sleat from the distillery. It was matured in American Bourbon oak with Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez casks added, which gives a sweeter, richer flavour and a darker colour. The barley was peated to 78.44 ppm, and 19.7 ppm remains in the bottle. It is non-chill-filtered and of natural colour, and 90,000 bottles were produced. The nose is muted peat smoke with orange peel and vanilla, and the palate adds barbecue smoke, pepper and cedar before a long, smoky finish.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Muted peat smoke with orange peel, tart fruit and a hint of dying embers, then vanilla sweetness and fresh oak

Palate

Peat returns with a barbecue note, then pepper, light balsamic acidity, more sweetness, cedar and leather

Finish

Long, pleasant and smoky, with sherry in balance with the peat and spice

About Glenbotal

The idea of Glenbotal came to us naturally: as whisky lovers, we were always on the lookout for new experiences in the whisky world. That’s why we created Glenbotal and became our very own first customers. We buy unique and hard to find spirits from ballots and private collections. Then, we share them with a small circle of friends and people who can appreciate a good dram.
