Trail's End 8 Year Old is a bourbon aged for eight years in charred new American oak barrels. It is then finished by the distillers at Clear Creek in their own apple brandy barrels, a step meant to bridge the two brands. Bottled at 52.5% vol.
The nose is warm and sweet, with pie crust, maraschino cherries, flat cola and a hint of late summer rain on dry ground. The palate is oaky and herbal, like barley tea sweetened with manuka honey, with pipe tobacco and red ale in the middle. It ends in a faint bitterness from the barrel's waning char.
