Trail's End 8 Year Old is a Kentucky straight bourbon bottled at 52.5% ABV in a 75cl bottle. It spends eight years in new charred American oak before moving to Hood River, Oregon.
There, Hood River Distillers finish it in barrels that previously held their own Clear Creek apple brandy. The mash bill is corn, malted barley and about 10% rye.
The nose is sweet, with pie crust, maraschino cherries, flat cola and a note of late-summer rain on dry ground. The palate is oaky and herbal, like barley tea sweetened with manuka honey, with pipe tobacco and red ale in the middle. The finish is long and carries a bitterness from the barrel's fading char.
