Catcher's Rye is a Detroit rye whiskey from Two James Spirits, made from 100% Michigan-grown rye and bottled in a 75cl bottle. It is aged in new American oak, then finished in hand-selected sweet vermouth barrels.
The distillery was founded in 2013 by David Landrum and Peter Bailey in Corktown, and the rye is named for their fathers, both called James, and for the catchers of Detroit baseball. This small-batch, limited release adds herbal, fruity notes to the rye's spice.
The nose has warm baking spices, dried cherries and herbal notes. On the palate come caramelised orange peel, cinnamon and rye spice, and the velvety finish brings bittersweet cocoa.
