Van Winkle Special Reserve 12 Year Old is a wheated Kentucky straight bourbon, here in its 2023 release. It is bottled at 45.2% ABV (90.4 proof) in a 750ml bottle.
The bourbon was distilled at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, from the Van Winkle family's wheated recipe, in which wheat is the secondary grain. It was aged for twelve years in new charred American oak.
The nose is led by toffee. The palate brings caramel, nuts and brown spice, and the long, elegant finish has been likened to fine cognac.
