Velvet Cap is a small-batch Irish blend of malt and grain whiskies from Blackwater Distillery in County Waterford, bottled at 40% ABV in a 750ml bottle.
After blending, the whiskey is rested in a selection of bourbon, port and stouted rye casks, which is what the Triple Cask name refers to. The brand is named after the velvet caps worn by jockeys in Irish point-to-point racing.
The nose offers candied banana, honey, dark stonefruit and almond. The palate is luscious and oily, with vanilla, plum and agave over a malty depth. The finish is fruity and lingering, with toasted caramel and cooked fruits.
