Courage & Conviction Cuvée Cask is an American single malt whiskey made from 100% malted barley, distilled, matured and bottled on site at the Virginia Distillery in Lovingston. It is bottled at 46% without chill-filtration.
It matures for at least four years in first-fill European red wine Cuvée casks, which are shaved, toasted and re-charred (the STR treatment) to draw more from the wine-soaked oak.
The nose offers plum, dark raspberry and chocolate torte with a hint of clove. On the palate come tart cherry, blood orange, cocoa and burnt sugar, leading to a long, warming finish of candied walnuts and ginger.
