Westward Rum Cask Finish is an American single malt from the Westward distillery in Portland, Oregon, bottled at 45% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It is made from 100% malted barley fermented with ale yeast, and aged in new, lightly charred American oak.
The whiskey then spends a further year in barrels seasoned with rum. These relate to Casa Magdalena, an all-natural cane rum distilled in Escuintla, Guatemala, which Westward's team spent five years developing with the Leal family. It is small batch and non-chill filtered.
The tasting notes give clover honey, butterscotch and orange on the nose, tropical fruit, white peach and coconut on the palate, and a finish of tangerine, molasses and waffle cone.
