WhistlePig 15 Year is a straight rye whiskey matured for 15 years and bottled at 92 proof (46%). It is the oldest whiskey the distillery makes.
It is the first WhistlePig finished in Vermont Estate Oak, cut from the distillery's own farm. The producer points out that Vermont oak has more rings than the oak normally used for whiskey barrels.
The nose is deep, with caramel, vanilla and oak, plus hints of allspice and burnt orange. The palate is warm and slightly creamy, with butterscotch, baking spice, leather and a hint of tobacco. The finish is very long and warm.
