WhistlePig 15 Year Straight Rye (46%)

This is a 15 year old straight rye from WhistlePig, bottled at 92 proof (46%). It is the first WhistlePig whiskey finished in Vermont Estate Oak, timber harvested from the distillery's own farm. The producer points out that Vermont oak has more rings than the standard oak used for whiskey barrels, and that each ring gives the spirit more flavour and depth. The nose is deep and rich, with caramel, vanilla and oak, plus hints of allspice and burnt orange. On the palate it is warm and slightly creamy, with butterscotch, baking spice, leather and a little tobacco. The finish is very long, warm and rich.
