Boss Hog II Spirit of Mortimer is a 13 year old straight rye whiskey from WhistlePig Farm, the second edition in its Boss Hog series, released in 2014. The series takes its inspiration from the distiller's mascot pigs and comes with a hand-chiselled pewter stopper.
It is made from 100% rye distillate chosen from Bond 77 barrels, which went into wood in April 2001 and aged for a minimum of 13.5 years. The barrelling combined American oak with first-use Bourbon barrels. This edition came from 50 single barrels, bottled at cask strength, in this case 117 proof.
Expect rye spice, liquorice and smoke on the nose, then spice, rye, vanilla and oak on the palate.
