WhistlePig Old World 12 Year Old is a straight rye whiskey aged for 12 years in new American oak, then finished in wine casks and hand-bottled at WhistlePig Farm in Shoreham, Vermont. It is bottled at 43% in a 75cl bottle.
The finish draws on three casks: Madeira (63%), French Sauternes (30%) and Port (7%).
The nose is caramel, vanilla and winter fruit. The palate shows rye spice with apricot, plum, raisin, date and honey, plus dark chocolate and fig, with a silky texture. The finish is long, with dark chocolate, winter fruit, caramel and vanilla.
