This is a six-year-old straight bourbon from WhistlePig, a distillery better known for rye. It was distilled on the company's farm in Shoreham, Vermont, from a high-corn mash bill with a little rye and malted barley, and bottled at 50% ABV.
It matured in new Char #3 American oak, with Vermont's swings between seasons pulling character from the barrel. It was launched in late 2022 as the distillery's first bourbon.
The nose is warm vanilla and caramel with toasted oak, gentle baking spice and honey. On the palate, cinnamon opens into maple syrup, roasted nuts, apple and burnt orange, with oak smoke beneath. The finish is long and warming.
