WhistlePig Snout to Tail 10 Year is a straight bourbon aged for ten years and bottled at 44% ABV in a 750ml bottle. The whiskey comes from a Kentucky distillery and is finished by WhistlePig in Shoreham, Vermont.
It matures in new charred American oak, then moves into finishing barrels fitted with two Vermont oak heads: one medium-toasted, the other toasted over smoked maple wood. The barrels are turned over during finishing so the bourbon spends time against each head.
The nose is honey, brown sugar and toasted cashew, with a little smoked maple. The palate brings roasted almond, cornbread, baking spice and toffee pudding, and the finish is medium-long, with butterscotch, cedar and a late cranberry tartness.
