WhistlePig The Boss Hog VIII, Lapulapu's Pacific, is the eighth annual Boss Hog release: a single-barrel straight rye of about 17 years, bottled at barrel strength and non-chill filtered, in a 750ml bottle. The proof varies from bottle to bottle.
After ageing in new American oak, the rye was finished in high-toast barrels that had held single-island Philippine rum for seven and ten years. The topper is a handmade pewter pig depicting Lapulapu, the Filipino hero of the Battle of Mactan in 1521.
Tasting notes mention deep oak and baking spice, with brown sugar, dried fruit and warm spice over a peppery rye core, and a long, warming finish.
