WhistlePig The Boss Hog VIII - The One That Made It Around The World is the 2021 eighth edition of the Boss Hog series, a single-barrel straight rye of roughly 17 to 18 years, bottled at natural barrel proof in a 750ml bottle. The rye was distilled in Canada, then finished and bottled at WhistlePig Farm Distillery in Shoreham, Vermont. It combines the finishing casks of Boss Hog VII and VIII: Spanish oak, South American teakwood and two Philippine rum casks, one that held seven-year-old rum and one ten-year-old. Vanilla, underripe banana, lemon and molasses lead on the nose, followed by cinnamon, citrus zest, butterscotch and toffee on the palate. The finish brings tanned leather, brown sugar, nutmeg, allspice and black pepper.
