WhistlePig The Boss Hog XIII, The Golden Pharaoh, is the thirteenth annual release in the Boss Hog series: a single barrel straight rye bottled straight from the cask, with no blending and no dilution. Each barrel's own strength and number are printed on the label.
The rye begins in new American oak and is then finished in casks seasoned with Egyptian black honey and tiger nut. The Egyptian theme carries into the packaging, with a hand-cast pewter pharaoh topper and a collector box.
Brown sugar, cinnamon and toasted almond lead the nose. The palate brings molasses, light honey, baking spice and black pepper, and the finish is soft, with toasted almond and brown sugar.
