A blended Scotch whisky from White Horse, dating from around 1961 and bottled at 70 proof, or 40%. The blend was first produced in 1861 by James Logan Mackie and takes its name from an Edinburgh inn. Lagavulin is at its heart, with Talisker and Linkwood also contributing. The bottle has a horse embossed on the shoulder.
The nose is peat smoke with grilled mushrooms, quinces, apricot pie, pipe tobacco and Spanish ham. The palate is salty and slightly leathery, with tobacco, beef soup and a hint of chilli. The finish is long, with smoke, lemons, oysters and figs.
