This is a 10-year-old Highland Park from Orkney, released under the Whitlaw name by independent bottler Cane & Grain. It was matured in a hogshead and bottled at 54.2% in a 70cl bottle.
Orkney's floral peat shows clearly here, alongside a savoury note in the aromatics, lifted by fresh citrus, honey and orchard fruits. The peat is gentle rather than heavy.
The nose is soft, with bakery notes, citrus peels, green apple, vanilla and a hint of floral smoke. On the palate the peat becomes an aromatic, almost botanical smoke, with honey, croissants, salted popcorn, shortbread and cinnamon. The finish is medium, with black pepper and drying oak.
