Wild Turkey 101 is a Kentucky straight bourbon from the Wild Turkey Distillery in Lawrenceburg, bottled at 50.5% ABV (101 proof) in a 750ml bottle.
The spirit is distilled to only about 55% ABV, well below the usual level, and the mashbill is 75% corn, 13% rye and 12% malted barley. It is aged for six to eight years in new American white oak barrels with a deep number 4 char, then brought to strength with minimal dilution.
The nose leads with nutmeg, cinnamon and white pepper, alongside brown sugar and vanilla cream. On the palate caramel and vanilla give way to clove, allspice and orange peel. The finish is medium to long, warm with cinnamon, fading to vanilla and dry oak.
