Wild Turkey Rare Breed is a barrel-proof Kentucky straight bourbon from Lawrenceburg, bottled at 58.4% in a 75cl bottle with no added water. It is non-chill-filtered.
The bourbon blends whiskeys of 6, 8 and 12 years old, made from a mashbill of 75% corn, 13% rye and 12% malted barley. Wild Turkey uses a comparatively low barrel entry proof of 107 to 115, so less water is added before ageing.
The nose is toasted caramel and vanilla with orange peel and charred oak. The palate is toffee, brown sugar, maple syrup and honey, with black pepper, cinnamon and oak spice. The finish is long and powerful, ending in dry oak.
