Willett Family Estate Rye (75cl)

Willett Family Estate Rye is a cask strength Kentucky straight rye whiskey from Willett Distillery in Bardstown, in a 750ml bottle. The strength varies a little from batch to batch. Two rye mashbills are commingled before bottling: one of 74% rye, 11% corn and 15% malted barley, the other of 51% rye, 34% corn and 15% malted barley. The aim is to echo the pre-Prohibition ryes of Maryland. The whiskey was distilled twice, using a column still and the distillery's Vendome copper pot still. The nose brings tart cherry, caramel-coated apple, burnt toffee and rye bread. On the palate come dark cherries, charred vanilla, liquorice, fennel and cinnamon. The finish is long, dry and peppery, with toasted grain, honey and mint.
