Willett Old Bardstown Bourbon Whiskey is a small-batch bourbon at 45%, in a 750ml bottle. It follows the Willett family's recipe from the 1940s, with a mash bill of 72% corn, 13% rye and 15% malted barley. It is sour-mashed, distilled in column and Vendome copper pot stills at Willett Distillery in Bardstown, and aged for at least four years in new charred American oak. It is non-chill-filtered.
The name comes from the Calumet Farm racehorse Old Bardstown, and the 2016 relaunch reproduces the original label artwork.
The nose offers caramel, oak, vanilla, cinnamon and pineapple upside-down cake. The palate brings butterscotch, apple skin, allspice and vanilla, ending dry with tropical fruit and baking spice.
